BEACHES

Tao Beach Club – An 8 min drive further down the Carr. Cancun – Tulum highway 307. Here you have access not only to the beach a pool, but also the beach bar and restaurant serving great seafood at the Blow Fish Restaurant.

Tulum Beach – A 25 minute drive south on the 307 highway is the Tulum beach strip, a small road that runs the length of the beach and leads you to the arch, which is the access to the Sian Ka’an biosphere. This area has a very relaxed, bohemian feel to it. Almost everything is accessible on foot in the main area, and bicycles are available for rent.

The beach is public the whole way along and you can find many options where you can dine or enjoy a drink with the sand between your toes.

Snorkeling At Akumal Bay - Looking to explore a single spot with a barrier reef that is well preserved and teeming with fish, and with seagrass beds full of green turtles and stingrays? Then head for Akumal Bay less than a 10 minute drive away, the most famous spot in the Riviera Maya. Facing a white sandy beach lined with coconut trees, the crystal-clear waters are the guarantee of an exceptional snorkeling experience.


CENOTES

Yal-Ku Lagoon & CenoteA 17 minute drive north along highway 307. This area is an inlet from the ocean and the salt and fresh water mix. The calm turquoise waters are home to sea turtles, tropical fish and manta rays. This place makes for an nice afternoon of snorkeling.

Dos Ojos - Located just 13 minutes drive from Chic 49, Cenote Dos Ojos is one of the largest and probably one of the most famous cenotes in Mexico. The cave system of the cenote is known to be at least 61 km and 118 m deep. As the name ‘two eyes’ indicates this cenote is divided into two sections: one with blue waters perfect for snorkeling and the other dark one for scuba diving

Cenote Azul. Located an 11 minute drive from Ocean Breeze, Cenote Azul is 26 meters deep and has crystal clear water perfect for swimming in. You can also meet some iguanas living in the bushes around. Although the place can get quite crowded everyone can find a spot to either relax or jump from a cliff.
There are plenty of fish that will swim around your legs, so be prepared to be tickled a lot. If you can hold your breath for long enough there is a small underwater cave passage that you can free dive through.

Jardin del Eden Cenote is also located very close to Cenote Azul.

Gran CenoteLocated near Tulum (25 mins drive from Ocean Breeze) is a perfect cenote for everyone with its sandy bottom and bats living in the cave. The center garden includes palm trees, water lilies and elephant ears with a platform for sunbathing. Keep an eye out for toucans if you happen to be visiting during January or February as they tend to pop out of nowhere sometimes.Its also on the way to Coba so could be visited after you Mayan excursion to cool off.


WILDLIFE

Sian Ka’an Biosphere - Home to 103 species of mammals and 345 species of birds, not to mention more than 1,400 species of plants. Among the wildlife clients might spot here are pumas, ocelots and jaguars, as well as tapirs, spider and howler monkeys, white-tailed deer and white-cheeked wild boars. There are several tour operators that offer day trips that may combine hiking, Jeep rides and boat rides to take in the full breadth of the reserve’s natural wonders.

Croco Cun ZooLocated near Puerto Morelos has an interactive guided tour where you can touch, hold, and feed a variety of local wild animals.Most of the specimens have come as donations, as well as rescues or seizures that the environmental authorities have placed under their care.

Akumal Monkey Sanctuary Only a 15 min drive from Chic 49, the sanctuary is a place where you can find a great variety of primates and other rescued animals. From the majestic and emblematic spider monkey to beautiful rescued capuchin monkeys and ring-tailed lemurs from the faraway lands of Madagascar. A home for rescued and donated animals of many other species such as goats, deer, and macaws.

Swimming With DolphinsThere are several resorts and establishments that have dolphins that you are able to swim with.The only one on the Riviera Maya that is certified in the humaine treatment of the animals is at Delphinus Xel-Há This has received third party validation and certification and is just an 18 minute drive south on highway 307.


MAYAN CULTURE

Tulum The former Mayan seaport city that traded in jade and turquoise, is perched on 12m high cliffs above the Caribbean ocean.Located just a 30 minute drive away.

Coba - An ancient Mayan city is the nexus of the largest network of stone causeways of the ancient Mayan world, and it contains many engraved and sculpted stelae that document ceremonial life and important events of the Late Classic Period (AD 600–900) of Mesoamerican civilization.A 60 minute drive away it’s well worth a visit.

Chichen ItzaThe most popular because of the main pyramid is so well preserved and the site is so large but it is a 2 hour and 20 minute drive away, so maybe one for guided a day and bus tour.

MuyilLesser known and with many fewer tourists this site is good for a quiet walk among a semi shaded area and a nice trail out to the lagoon in the back. A 47 minute drive south of Tulum.

ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES in the RIVIERA MAYA

Aktun-ChenIf you are interested in caves, underground rivers and zip lining through the forest then this is the place to go. A 17 minute drive south down highway 307.

XPLORIs a 26 minute drive north on highway 307. Zip lines, rafting, amphibious vehicles, cave swimming, are some of the activities.

Xel-Ha A 34 minute drive north on highway 307. Waterslide, snorkeling, river tours, caves, cliff jumping, zip lines, etc., etc.

Xcaret - A nature park in Playa del Carmen, (30 minutes drive north on Highway 307) where you can enjoy underground rivers and the natural and cultural wealth of Mexico in more than 50 attractions.
